smoke after driving

so now that Ive got the car driving, I start it and it doesnt really smoke at all while idling. But after driving up and down the street a few times it smokes a white smoke until its sat idling for a few minutes. I checked the dipstick (the previous owner changed the oil right before he gave it to me) and it was beyond the max mark. What causes the smoke? Also the tailpipe seems to have a bit of oil. The car struggles upto about 3k rpm but beyond that drives fine. Its a 2.0 with weber carbs. Any input would be appreciated

Chances are the motor is burning off excess oil if it is beyond fill line. You may also be running a bit rich until you get beyond 3K. I am sure the excess oil isn't helping.

drain out enough oil to bring it to the approved level, then try it again.

its only coming from the exhaust. So if there is too much oil where is it seeping to? And I think it is running a bit rich. Ill have to get some literature and learn how to tune those webers..

What weight oil should I use btw? Im guessing if I try to drain some out, Ill end up letting too much go..

yeah it just drain some to about middle of the fill marks. Since you are going to have them tuned have someone who knows carbs to tune them the first time around while you watch and have him/her explain. Then tune them next time you need them tuned.
