I just recently picked up a 72' 911T Targa with 95K+ showing on od. Most of what I looked at that was in good condition was about $8K-$10K. I found some 70'-72' coupe for about 5 but needed a lot of work. I got lucky and beat out 2 other people for mine at $5K. It is VERY!! good condition with a little minor work. Might need clutch and maybe valve job in about 6 months but I expected that. Most of what I looked at was in the Sacramento area. I did look at one in Seattle, a 70' coupe for 9800.
Good luck.

Just keep looking, I just picked up a 73 911T with 95 showing on the od. for 5500. bucks. It needs a little bit of work but for 5500 it gives me a lot of room left on my 10k budget.

I think that your range of $6-$8,000 for a 911 is a dangerous area, esp. if you are looking at '70 and up models. There are a lot of dogs and time bombs out there in that price range. Hidden rust, wrong engines, bad paint and body repairs, engines with internal problems, etc. You can easily end up spending thousands on one of these, and STILL have a not-so-nice car. Once you start getting into rust repair, engine and transmission work, etc., the thousands go by pretty quickly.

I have personally seen lots of cars in this price range over the years, and I have never personally seen a 911 for under $8000 that I would buy or consider a good car to get into from a financial point of view. Does this mean that all 911s under $8000 are bad? No, but be very careful. DEFINATELY get a qualified mechanic to look at it and give you an opinion on any 911 you are considering! You won't be sorry that you did.

My general advice would be to save up some more money and try to get a decent 911 SC, which you should be able to do for $11-12,000, if you are interested in having a nice 911 (as opposed to having a specifi interest in the early cars, which are nice but definately a lot older in feel than the SCs). You will spend more up front, but will likely save money in the long run, while having a much nicer car, which will also hold its value very well. The SC engine and the CIS are also pretty bulletproof.

Just my opinion.
