exhaust sistem!!!
I have a 75(76) 911 with a 74 2.7L.
question: how can I find out if my exhaust sistem is 75(76) or 74? And since I live in Brazil, I dont need heat in the cockpit, how do I take the heat exchanger out? Is there any problem doing this? |

Early style exhaust is dual inlet single outlet. Later exhaust has only a single inlet muffler. If you don't need heat trash the entire mess and buy a set of headers for $400. I've used them and they work great while saving weight and complexity. Muffler mods are also wide open at that point.

If that 2.7 is truly a '74, the 'heat exchngers' will be very similar to the '65-'73 models, that is, they are true 'equal-length headers,' with three serpentine pipes leading to one approximate 2" outlet, for each bank of three cylinders. And, the muffler, like earlier models, has two inlets, widely spaced, corresponding to the cylinder head spacing. If you have such heat exchangers and muffler, I can't think of any reason why you would want to change them, as they are vastly superior to later exhaust systems, in terms of engine 'breathing' and power potential.

Yes I have a 74 exhaust system, by the descriptions above.....thats good. But since I don't need heat I will take my heat exchangers, i think it will make my engine cooler and less weight too. Any idea how to take them off?
By the way thanks for the replies. |
