Car decides to take off on its own?

Got the %$#@ scared out of me this am. While on the way to the mechanic for an unrelated problem I got on the freeway and made the shift from second to third and the next thing I realize is that the car is floored and I'm not on the gas. Got to a spot where I could kill the ignition and control the stop along the side of the freeway. Looks like the cruise cable had come out of it mount and let it go wide open. Is there a fix for this or should I just remove the cruise?

David,

I had this happen years ago in an 83. My solution that work fine was two zip-ties kind of diagonally around the plastic and square metal holder.

Cool finally a 50 cent fix for a multi thousand dollar problem. Thanks!
