Clutch Problem?
Looking for help with my 86 911. Occasionally, after shifting gears, a very strange vibration/wobbling sensation starts to feed back through the clutch pedal itself. It can last a couple of minutes while driving and I can even shift while its happening, and then it will disappear. I was stopped, once, when it happened, and was able to shut the engine down, and restart, whereupon the sensation disappeared immediately. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?
Thanks, Pat Update: Here is another strange part of the story. While idling and stopped (and clutch in), the transmission puts up intense resistance to my efforts to engage any gears but 1st and reverse will grind if I try to go there, and when I try 3rd the engine speeds up! I've also noticed that, occasionally, I won't be able to engage 1st (grinding instead). I'm wondering if the input shaft is getting frozen to the pilot bearing... Tomorrow the engine comes out. Have you had the Clutch disc replaced?
If not, there is something about the OE disc using a rubber center (as opposed to spring loaded disc). I hear these can and tend to "explode". I hope it something simpler than that. Good luck! Nick |

Thanks for the post, Nick.
I believe everything was renewed only 15k miles ago by the last owner, including a spring-centered clutch disk. I suspect something is possibly malfunctioning, like the throw-out bearing, pilot bearing, or disk centering springs..? I've been hoping someone else has had this sort of problem, and could identify it for me. I have had no luck with that, though. Pat |

I had many 'issues' with the clutch on my tranny also. replacing the pressure plate clutch disk, flywheel, TO bearing AND release fork solved the problems. You can buy all the stuff from Pelican and it's not to hard of a job to do.
