WheelEnhancement.com?
has anyone had any positive or negative experiences with "wheel enhancement?" i was basically brushed off when i called their "800" number with questions the other day, the guy that answered the phone identified himself as one of the owners, but did not seem to have the patience or time to try and "sell" their products or program. i passed this experience off as bad timing and want to give them a another shot. i'm specifically interested in their "wheel exchange" program. thanks in advance.

You probably got Robert Wood himself, who is somewhat known for being a bit, shall we say, abrupt, on the phone. This is the only complaint I've heard about Wheel Enhancement, more of an attitude toward their customers than a quality issue. Everyone seems satisfied with their wheels. I enquired recently about an exchange for my 930 rims; they wanted, I think, $750 in exchange for refinished black-centered Fuchs of the same size. The only danger there is if your wheels turn out to be either damaged or not true, and then you're out some $$$$. John Brown is the other guy there, and he is very nice and helpful on the phone. They will email back in a couple days too.
Anybody got some Turbo Fuchs (7 and 9 X 16) they'd like to sell? Vic 87 930 coupe |

Yes, I was to pay $750 and give them my rims, which need refinishing, they were to send the set of already refinished rims first with a deposit from me to cover the entire price.
I believe their price was $700 to refinish all four of my rims (strip, reanodize and paint) if I sent them in. They are not the cheapest out there, obviously, but they do have a good reputation. I am leaning toward a simple polish and paint job on my rims, about $250. Vic 87 930 coupe |

Ah, yes, Robert T. Wood. I have never actually done business with him, but I did speak to him in 1984 when I was searching around for 9x15 and 11x15 Fuchs wheels used on RSRs, and, as as someone said, he is rather abrupt if you are asking about anything except what HE considers a 'regular' question. He told me the 9" and 11" wheels were simply unavailable on the used market, when at that time Earnie's Alloys had a set for several years advertised in Autoweek for $3000, and still has a set (probably the same set!) for $5000! Robert also tried to tell me that there was no such thing as a 9x15 replica Fuchs wheel, when I already had a set made in Italy and purchased from Electodyne in 1982, and they were still in the 1984 Electrodyne catalog at the time of my conversation with Mr. Robert.

I bought a set of "perfect" 16x9's from Robert Wood that arrived with a large curb scrape on one rim. This was never resolved. Later I learned that the organization I did business with was the new owner that Mr. Wood sold his business and name to. I won't comment on my views of selling your name/reputation and then trying to jump right back into the same business with your old reputation intact. My business now goes to Rennsport in Atlanta, superior work, great prices and a happy for your business attitude on the phone.

Can you tell me more about Rennsport in Atlanta, do they offer new aftermarket wheels like WheelEnhancement.com or just repair/refurbish o.e.m. wheels? Do you have someone there specifically to deal with, I mean I'm trying to spend some $$$ and can't get anyone to give me the correct advice. I want to upgrade my OEM 16's to either 17" or 18" wheels. I basically plan on lowering my ride and then try to fill up the wheel wells w/o having to use spacers. Thanks.

Jeff - What type/kind of wheels are you looking for? When you figure that out you've got something to go on. Speedline, BBS, Etiol, OZ, etc, all make great looking wheels. There are enough companies out there to allow you to choose the exact look you want AND the exact size. Let us know.
