Sunroof help needed

Well, I am down to the last couple of small projects on the Carrera prior to its first "official" road test after a repaint. The worst or which is the sunroof reassembly. I have not been able to find a good source for the part explosion and procedure for complete reassembly. I know, I know- buy a FSM, but since I don't have one I need help. I have Wayne's 101 projects book, and that shows partial information on an older unit. I have Alldata, and that shows some photos, but not enough. I read the 10 pages of sunroof items in the 911 tech forum here at PP. All I was able to find was the diagram that lists the parts, but doesn't show an accurate assembly format- only one rail is pictured, for example. Does anyone have info?

Thanks!!

Hi Dave,

I just took mine apart not too long ago and it's not tremendously involved. You need to be more specific about what info you're looking for or where you're running into trouble,

ian- Ok here goes.

You have to understand that I disassembled this last fall. The memory is a little short these days. I have a box full of parts and not much to go on.

Problem 1:

I can not get the rails back in so that the screw holes line up with the holes in the small metal piece with the bump in it.

Reference the photos in this thread
DIY Sunroof cable replacement notes

In photo # that shows the slide- the part i am speaking about has raises the roof up. This part has a hole in it for a mounting screw, and is about an inch from where my rail is situated. In photo #2, there is the plastic stub that fits into the round slot in the rail. I have this in the proper position. I can not get the rail to slide far enough toward the rear.

The rest of the assembly questions relate to the proper location of bolts, brackets, etc.

Thanks

Is it possible that the plastic "pin" at the rear of the rail is not fitting into its hole at the rear of the sunroof liner? (next to the hole where the cable tubes attatch). Sounds like that is about the distance you are off of the screw hole alignment.

Rich- yours is the older style- same as what is pictured in Wayne's 101 book. I have nowhere near as many attaching points.

ossi- the pin is fitting into the round slot in the sunroof rail. Should I pull the pin out the back side through the zipper opening and then install the rail?

Thanks guys!

Don't know if removing the pin before installing the rail will work. However, you should be able to see the pin in the hole if it's properly set by looking through the zipper opening in the headliner. Maybe it just takes a little maneuvering of the rail. Hope this helps.

Rich- you're moving the wrong direction!!!!! If I could make a decent buck I would be in CO with the family today! Where are you moving in Bucks? I am in Northampton County (1 north of Bucks). To keep the interest, we have a pretty strong weekend warrior ski racing scene in the Poconos- the hills aren't worth much, but the competition keeps things fun.

ossi- I talked to Tom at our host this AM, and he faxed me a drawing from the PET that shows the breakdown. It looks like the pin we speak of should be part of the rail- installed at the time the rail goes in place. I can't work on this until Thursday AM- I will try to remove the pin then. Thanks for the input.
