New Targa on C4s only!

The new Targas are only going to be on the C4 and C4S. I wonder if this is a simple marketing move or if it's a sign that the 911 is becoming more of the GT car for Porsche? I have to admit, I like the look of the new trim piece...   So do you think there's any significance to the C4 only for the Targa? ...or maybe they'll introduce it to other models later? ...or maybe the 911 is going to become a C4 only car, and the Cayman S will take over as the "pure sports car"?  OK, it's a stretch, but I could happen...

I think the Targa's sales percentage of total 911 sales is pretty low. It's probably a production cost savings issue and based on the theory that the person who wants a new targa probably would either choose the C4 anyway, or doesn't care. I may be wrong, but I believe the serious 911 enthusiast will be happier in a C2 and the typical person who doesn't drive in anger will be happier in the zooted up C4, Targa or otherwise.
The Targa is a neat concept but it's still not for me. |

That does'nt make much sense to me. The Targas will mostly be sold in nicer climates where the AWD is'nt really needed.

Found more pics from Autoweek. Interesting the badging in the back is "targa 4" and "targa 4S".

Maybe from a structural point of view - the C4 body shell is what the factory is using for the GT3 - The way the thin roof rails are - they are pretty precise and don't tolerate much in the form of twisting so it would make sense to start the car with the most rigid body structure.
