Any idea what color is meant by Paint Tag 31-30127L

Any idea what color is meant by Paint Tag 31-30127L? The paint tag is on a 1972 model year 911T coupe. The bottom layer of paint (!) is very pink. Could that translate to a red color of that type? What is it called? All help appreciated.

I looked at www.paintscratch.com and www.glasurit.com and didn't come up with anything. Paintscratch shows a Bahia Red and Rasberry for 1972 but the numbers don't correlate. It may have been a special color. You may want to double check the paint tag to verify the numbers. Goodluck in what you find.

I double-checked the numbers on the tag and that's how they read. I checked the links you suggested. The color looks very much like 1972 Raspberry L024. For 1971 the closest would be L023/7979/7910 Light Red but it has more pink than that. A mystery!

Could be a custom color. But I'm sure 31-30127L means SOMETHING even if it means custom color. The L is the paint manufacturer. I'm guessing the 31 means one thing and the 3012 is the color code. It is a very pink red, at least that's the color in the engine compartment under the black and in the doors.

L should mean the manufacturer is Lesonal http://www.akzonobelcarrefinishes.net/default.asp?sid=65389&pid=498 They have a solution center number on the link. A call may help. Do you have a pic of the tag and color?

On the Glasurit site I come up with......

Rick - I think you've got it! 3012 Beige Red! The actual color certainly doesn't look "beige" to me, more like pink I would think, I would have sworn it was Raspberry but what do I know? The full number 3012 like that I think is definitive, especially since it exactly matches the Glasurit example.

An uncommon color for a 911 (at least in my experience)! I don't think I've ever seen it on a list of standard long hood Porsche 911 colors.

Note the color samples from the car in question in photos below. My favorite place to verify original color is under the box that forms the top of the McPherson strut structure in the trunk. There is a space under it that is plugged by the factory with a wad of putty. They did this on both sides. Then they sprayed the trunks black, at least on later long hood cars. When you remove the putty you see the original color of the car. Never fails! Even the most thorough repaint isn't going to remove that putty unless the whole car is dipped or blasted or something like that.

Beigerot translates as "beige red" or "rosso beige" - this link even refers to "RAL 3012" -

These sites reference a beige red that really looks beige -

Many many thanks!

Mike--
Can't help with the color code, but please make sure you put a cover on the positive battery terminal to prevent inadvertent shorts. You can pick one up at any auto parts store.

For early 911's, this is a fun site to check out colors: http://www.elferhelfer.com/farben.htm
