Broken Bumper Shocks
Sorry about the previous post I hit the wrong button before I was finished.
When I had my '76 911S repainted the shop broke the studs off my rear bumper shocks (right in photo). I purchased a new set from a fellow pelicanite (left in photo) and the stud is much larger. Too large to slide through the bracket without modifying the bracket, which I am reluctant to do. ![]() Below is a photo showing the part no. on the shocks I purchased. Is it the right part no. for '76? All the catalogs, including Pelican show the same part 1974 through 1989. ![]() Thanks

Vance,
I had the same issue with my '76. I also double checked all the part numbers as well as checking some spares I had off a '89. Not sure if it is a transition year issue or not. I simply used a Dremel to open up the slot on the bracket to fit. (Very tedious, but not difficult.) Opening that slot won't significantly decrease the strenth of that part, and if you get hit hard enough to bend that bracket, you have other probems. (You won't be able to see the mod with the tube mounted if you are worried about looks.) Worst case, if you end up with a small bolt bumper tube later on, you can use a sleeve on the bolt to increase the diameter. Everything else seemed to be the same dimension wise. v/r Brent '76 911 S Targa |

Also, not sure if you have them, but there are large rubber donuts that fit over the end stud between the shock and the bracket, significantly larger than the ones on the old tube.

Yoda:
Thank you for the post. Opening the holes seems to be the only solution. Thanks
