I would agree that this car is more a #2-3. I thought it was going to be a real catch, but it has real issues!
1)No engine upgrades(CTs, airbox, etc.)
2)No headstud replacement (Its from the rainy NE area)
3)A/C nonfunctional
4)front air dam damaged probably from towing
5)Very warped dashboard
6)Original clutch
7)Who knows what else!

This car is definitely not a $24k car. I now feel uneasy about offering $21,500. I'm sure some emotional guy will end up buying it. Thanks again you guys,

Kurt

That is a $15K car that happens to have low miles showing on the odometer imho. Not "near mint", just "low miles". If it is the original clutch, that needs to be done, as does the airbox. Tensioners are arguable. Dash isn't cheap to make right. AC is a joke either way so I wouldn't really hold that against any car except as a bargaining chip.

once you start driving a 911, you might change your tune. I had no real inclination towards tracking a car. Closest I'd come was racing bicycles back in the early 90's. Until I'd been using my 911 as a daily driver and listened to some of the evil people here, and showed up for parade laps at California Speedway.

Hiya Nostatic. I appreciate your input on the car. You guys always seem to set me straight and get me out of my emotional funk. I am not opposed to zooming around some ess turns, as a matter of fact that's probably what I'll do, but definitely nonabusive! Thank you again nostatic!

That lack of a $50 toilet bowl flapper definitely drives down the value of an SC.

For that price I would consider the '87-'89 Carrera. I love my SC but $22K is IMHO high. If you care to drive it then you can find a nice SC for around $15K and that is for a nicely done one with moderate but good upgrades like the pop off valve, chain tensionsers, carrera torsion bars, etc.

Thank you, Huh :)

I found my 84K mile sunroof delete SC two years ago for low teens. After the fact, I do realize that it was a great deal but I still wouldn't think that someone would pay $22K for it today.

84K isn't "low" miles to me. Yeah, I know they are old cars, but I consider "low miles" 60K or less (give or take). $22K is definitely the higher end for an SC, but I would venture that a 40K mile car that is in excellent condition would get that. Other than the dogs that are out there (ie a lot of them), the decent cars have flattened and are on the rise. Not to early S levels, but I think you have to look a lot harder to find a truly good car for a bargain price.

I wish cars like this were in Califorina.

How does black paint hold up on the West coast?

The North East has the acid rain.

GothingNC 07-21-2006 10:34 AM

Spend a little more and get a low mileage 83 Turbo:D

John,

Actually, the link that you showed me on Pelican IS the SC that I'm going to look at next wk. I am leaning toward this one, even though it has been repainted on the hood and both front quarter panels--Not a good thing, but lets see how bad the previous damage was.

GothingNC 07-21-2006 11:36 AM

It is very common to have the hood & fenders replaced as well as the side mirrors.

Stone chips and scratches show up very easily on black paint and the shape of the 911 nose seems to attract rocks:rolleyes

I know a guy with a 49 VW Hebuller that is in excellent shape and he does not hesitate to drive it across country. He hit a deer about 10 years ago and had to replace the hood and front fender. Took him about 2 years to find a correct front bumper in Europe.
His car wears it's stone chips with pride

Check out my SC in the classifieds. I got $19,800 for it last week. I paid $11k for it and put about another $9k into making it perfect. I'd say I did pretty well.
