Oil Cooler on 1970 911 E - Needed or not?
Is it necessary or beneficial to install an oil cooler on my 1970 911 E ?
The car has Weber Carbs. and some minor engine mods. I have a complete 3.6 cooler set up, lines, riser, and cooler. Forgetting the logisics of the install, should I install it or not? I am restoring the car and want to do it(if I do it) before I complete the resto work. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks guys. |

Well, it kind of depends on how hard you drive it and how hot it gets in the summer where you are. If it was me, I would go ahead and do it. For the lower belt of states that see 90+ degree days in the summer, I think it is a good idea ... almost mandatory from Texas through So. Cal.
I did my own cooler conversion to my '73 'S' with -16AN Russell hose and fittings, a custom-ordered Earl's -16AN cooler, and a MOCAL USAC/CART thermostat in -16AN !!! And my engine is 'stock' except for an RS 2.7 distributor! But, the summers in West Texas are brutally HOT! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |
