the buying debate - Survey Says: SC v.s. carrera 3.2

Assuming the same condition

Which coupe would you buy?

I find the SC seems to have more torque and a more chuckable feel

The 3.2 is more luxurious and will likely hold its value

SC all the way for me, I love 'em. Three litre cars are just so good, as long as you dump some of the lead out that is. Shame you guys never got the Carrera 3.o, I wish there were more of those engines available used to play with.

3.2 for me, nice reliable EFI and scope for performance chips etc..

You can easily lose some weight from a 3.2 and make it just as "chuckable" as an SC

SC for me (I like torquey, tossable, visceral). Shopped for SCs & Carreras - found they felt very different. My 82 RoW SC has 20 more hp than U.S. SC models (with SSIs & Dansk 2 in/ 2 out it now makes about 220 hp - moves my 2550 lb SC about quite briskly).

Resale value of the car isn't a factor for me.

I've had both (SC v. G50 Carrera), and while I never tested them with a stopwatch or anything, I swear my SC was faster. Although it may not have been entirely fair, as my SC was an early version with no AC, and my carrera is configured from the factory in one of the heaviest versions of the car.

And my SC, I think, was stock, but I think it was a particularly strong one. That thing just screamed. My Carrera goes ok, but doesn't slam you back at 3500 rpm like the SC did.

Still, I think by the numbers, the from the factory the Carrera is faster than the SC (at least that's what most testing has shown). At the age these cars are now, I think it mostly depends on how well the individual car has been tuned and maintained. These are all old cars now, but if I were choosing, all things being equal (i.e., equal condition cars) I'd go with the Carrera. I like the CIS cars, but I like Motronic better.

If you have a late stock SC it 'll probably feel faster than a fat usa carrera. however if you have a early sc vs a early euro-carrera without airco there is no comparison.

Right. Here are the motives for the 3.2:

According to one of the premier Porsche magazines "the purest 911 of them all".

And, more important, according to an interview with Walter Röhrl, he believes the 3.2 engine is the best Porsche built. Ever. Period.

How is that for a pro recommendation!

SCWDP....Naahh

Correct me if I'm wrong genius, but haven't you just sold the engine out of the back of your 3.2 to whack a 3.6 in it?

I wonder why more SC owners don't do that if it's all about HP...

How many Carrera owners put a CIS 3.0 in their car if they need a new motor?

I've had two very high mileage 3.2s (an 84 and 86, both starting at 180K miles going to 245K range) and a european Carrera 3.0.

Think of all the stuff you have to add to an SC: proper front cooler, brakes, pop-off valve, tensioners , etc. Why not start with a better car and just subtract? As a lightweight junkie, I'd still rather lighten a Carrera than build on an SC. Just find a car after 80K miles with good guides.
