My front mount oil cooler could use some cosmetic touch-up. Would repainting an oil cooler adversely affect its cooling efficiency? What type of paint? High temp. engine enamal???
Thanks, Dan

yes, the paint will act as an insulator. that is why most high end radiators are natural or brushed aluminum. maybe you could consider media blasting the rest of the paint off of your cooler and simply repainting any rock shields you have in place.

As someone who used to grant PhD's in heat transfer, I will dis agree with the above. A thin layer of paint will have minimal effect on the exchange efficiency of the cooler. Avoid thick paint etc.
If you are really concerned, you can have a thermal coating put on that looks and protects like paint or pc - there is a place south of Portland Oregon that does this. No doubt other places too.

The stock Behr oil cooler on my 71 911S was painted a very pale duck egg green from the factory. Noticed it when I finally got the 2 inches of dirt and grease off lol.
