RPM Sportscars, Houston?
Does anyone have a line on RPM Sportscars in Houston? A friend of my brother is looking at car that they have and was wondering about their reputation and business practices. Any comments? Any ideas of a ppi shop? Thanks.
Joe PS The car is a 87 Carrera targa with 15k miles on it.

I think highly of RPM Sportscars in Houston, TX. Ray Joseph, the owner, has been doing this a long time and is very knowledgable about Porsches. I have done business with him. IMO he is a good businessman and does what he says. He owns his building and is definitely not a retail-type shop like others in Houston. His location is even a little hard to find and really isn't a walk-in store. You should shedule a visit. It is an incredible place -- so many pristine Porsches and some exotics with almost no miles. Amazing.
He finds the best cars, pays more for them than anyone -- that's how he gets the best cars -- and sells them for more than anyone. I think Ray is responsible for the high prices Willhoit, Premier, Truspeed, and everyone else is asking for used 993s today. Low mile cars, typically 10k miles or less are his specialty with 993s a concentration. As 993s are getting older, but still in that ultra special category, he is buying cars with a little more mileage. Over the last year or so I also noticed he has branched out into some older Porsches too as they are becoming hot. Occasional 996 as well but not that often. He also sells interesting high end cars like Gallardos, F430s, Ford GT as he comes across the right cars. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a car from Ray but as with any used car a PPI is wise. He knows the cars well and is a very knowledgable buyer like I said earlier, but you need to assure the condition of any used car for yourself. If your friend is really interested and not just kicking tires, he should call Ray(maybe have someone who knows '87s on the phone too) and ask some good questions. Ray can be direct. Not arrogant, just direct. He knows the cars, he owns the cars he sells, his prices are pretty firm from what I understand. If you want a low mile car in excellent condition and don't want to spend the time trying to find the best deal (he may beat you to it or outbid you anyway and have wired the owner full payment before you can say "I want to do a PPI next week.") and are willing to pay top dollar for a top car, I think RPM is a great place to shop.

Another option for your brother...
I have a 1988 CE Cab with 12,900. doc miles Diamond Blue (same as targa @ RPM) I would consider selling for the same price. I bought it 3 yrs ago with 8900 miles from Brandywine Porsche in PA. Car is perfect. 2 first place wins in local PCA concours. Here are a few pictures. I am in Halifax, MA. Would welcome a PPI at any local Porsche garage.
