carrera intake to 3.0

Ok in the search for a little more free flowing intake I just bought a carrera intake for my 3.0 turbo. What will I need to do to bolt it up?? Anythoughts?? I searched and saw some reference but not much. What do you guys think??

No it does not just bolt up. You need the plastic spacers, new studs for heads. Then you must enlarge the intake at the injector opening on the head for it spray properly. Then you can add a little aluminum to the head for a larger gasket seat. I skipped that part and it still worked.

So the head port is a bit small??

Yes, Buy the plastic spacers and you can mark it out exactly where you need it. I also had to use the stock gaskets from the 3.0 and use a hole punch to modify them to fit.

What Length intake studs?? I looked on the pelican page and found no reference to 84-89 carrera head to intake studs

I don't remember. I called Pelican and we ordered the longer of the two that they supply. I think it is the same as the exhaust studs for the same year carrera.

I did this as well.

I took the easy route and had Walt at Competition Engineering modify the injector ports and match the manifold ID's to the 3.0 head intakes - that is necessary. You will, as noted, need the thick phenolic spacers and gaskets on both sides of that.

Walt convinced me that adding a weld bead to fill out was unnecssary - and I'm thinking he's correct.

Jim

The reason for this is I feel the cis system is a bottle neck for my turbo system and would like to get maximum boost early on. We will see
