Clutch helper spring question again...
 

Its becoming my perennial problem :(

Just put the engine back and was installing the helper spring and run into yet another weird problem...

Everything installed ok but as soon as I touch the clutch pedal, it would sink and I can see that its pulling the helper spring with it.

The eventual position of the spring is kinda like when I was installing it onto the release arm BEFORE it was compressed. I can use my hand to rotate the spring/cable back so that it rests again on the stop. And I can distinctly feel that pop/click when the spring is compressed passed its "top ded center" as the factory manual refers to.

Any idea why is it doing that? Does it mean I have another broken helper spring? My clutch cable was replaced last spring and everything worked fine before I took the engine/tranny out last fall.

Does this help? I had the same issue and I think it solved the problem for this guy.
I scratched my head for days then adjusted to what seemed like an extreme and it has worked perfectly for over a year since.
If I misread your problem I do apologize but I hope this is it.

Kevin, yes - I seem to have the same problem except that in my case, the pedal doesn't come back up (PJ's seem to come back up but become rock solid as if the helper spring is not there anymore).

How/what adjustment did you do to get rid of this problem?

I don't get it as I thought even without the helper spring, the pedal should be pulled back up by the pressure plate? It crossed my mind that maybe the release bearing & fork didn't mate properly?
