The alternator sits in the cooling shroud. Where does the wiring from it come out from the shroud? Other than the battery terminals, where can the charging be checked? Are there any alternator-disconnects for when the engine is removed?

The wires exit the shroud under the airbox, as for disconnecting it when removing the engine from the car it's connected to the engine wiring harness which is disconnected at the fenderwell. I don't know of an easier place to check for charging than at the battery.

Gunter,
The terminals at the alternator are of the eyelet or ring style and are bolted to the alternator studs with washer and nut, except for the Blue #61 warning lamp lead, which is a female 1/4" Faston commector, like most of the low-current connections in the car. System Voltage can be checked at any fuse block, including the one in the engine compartment. For driving tests, I recommend that a special tead lead set be built connecting the cigarette lighter socket to a multimeter.
