What grease to use on CV joint?
What type of grease (other than Swepco 101) should I use on the CV joints?
Unfortunately, I did not find a Swepco distributor here in Guatemala. Thanks |
I've had good results with Liqui Moly LM47 with MOS2. I have not had good luck with Swepco on my wheel bearings. Lately I have switched to Valvoline SuperSyn. Just be sure to pack enough grease into the CV joint and boot (3 oz) so that the grease doesn't come out and make the joint run dry.

Most known brand grease like GKN and Loebro will work just fine for every day use. /Peter |
Peter, do you know where I can get NSO grease? I agree, the car probably came with el cheapo multipurpose grease. Just stay away from the fad-ish Redline synthetic. I think that stuff is way too thin and doesn't adequately protect the expensive and now hard to replace CV joints.

Randy, I noticed that the Swepco thinned more and I got more wear than when I was using the Liqui Molly. LM is still my favorite grease, but It's hard to find and does not come in cartridges. Redline grease is awful.

You can order the LM from our host in either sizes.
That is where I purchased it. |
Thanks for all the inputs.
Also, do you use any type of sealant on the CV joint on top of, or instead of, the gasket? i changed the CV joint/boots very recently and grease keeps coming out. I did re-torque the CV bolts a couple of times after the installation, but I am still having the problem. Thanks |
Matt,
The LM is only available now in the small tube. But that's the good stuff for sure. http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/ksearch/PEL_search.cgi?command=show_part_page&please_wait= N&make=POR&model=911M§ion=SUSaxl&page=1&bookma rk=1&part_number=3510-M19 |
