Pic of '89 fan with original finish?
Does anyone have a good closeup pic of an '89 fan with original finish in great shape? I want to refinish mine as original but don't have a good original example to match.
Thanks!

This is a picture after I bead blasted with very fine glass bead. This is what the original cast finish would be like. It gets dirty very quickly.

I guess you can surmise from the replies the "original" finish is kind of ugly, hence all the post about fan polishing and painting. One thing for sure is that it needs something. My recipe for the original finish is add one part grease, one part dirt, and age considerably. I've found the best and most durable finish is to clean it well, remove all the residual cosmoline and dirt, and to let it age with a satin, maintenance free, patina. And I have polished my fan like the post above numerous times. The only problem is that it will oxidize quickly, maybe a month, before it turns into a satin finish.

The first picture below is an engine with about 600 miles. It's an 82? SCRS. It's been sprayed with a very thin coat of cosmoline or Tectyll, and has a slight goldish/greenish cast in person. I think they would have done them this way on 89's as well. Joe ![]()

I polished and clear powder coated mine. So far it is holding up well with no oxidation (1000 miles). This is what it looks like together. If it doesn't hold up I will strip the clear and PC it silver with a high gloss clear. Magnesium is high strength with very low weight.
89911 that fan looks great. Also sometime soon I will have the same rear bumper due to the pictures of your car, hate that when I see something I like. ![]()
