what are these plates
these are in my 74, look like homemade riveted on. anyone know, im assuming something with heat but idk.

The right one is covering up a factory a/c conversion hole. Not sure about the left one.

They both are for covering up A/C openings. I have recently done this myself on my 75 911S which had aftermarket (non-working) AC. The left one is the feed that went to the underdash vents. (Replaced the kneepads.) The right was the opening that fed the cooling unit, located in the "smugglers boot".

They are saying they are stock locations for AC components which would require covering if the AC was removed. The panels themselves might not be stock - so they could be homemade as you suggest.
