Well the housings are boge. The inserts could be anything. Have to pull them to find out.

So I can use anyone in my current housing

You can use many, just be sure to specify Boge strut housings. Not all manufacturers build to fit this application.

Sounds like you have Boges.....Put in the Bilstein Insert - I did a love it......

TWork 07-24-2006 07:36 PM

Kurt, how do you tell what type the housings are? Is there something in particular in the photo that distinguishes them as Boge?

jasonlee 07-24-2006 07:48 PM

Boge housings were black and Bilsteins were green. I think Konis were yellow. Someone please correct me if I am worng.

You are 100% right, after a little research I found the color chart for the different shocks

thaks!

Considering the age of the vehicle, and that the struts may have been painted over ... the only way to be sure is to clean the lower strut housing and find the Porsche OEM part number or mfr stamp. Either 'Boge' or 'Koni' will be stamped into the strut housing tubing. Boges were originally painted black, and Konis were painted red-orange.

Koni still makes inserts for '72 - '74 Boge struts ... pn #8641-1039.
