What is this stuff connected to Batt?
I'm having an issue with a dead battery after sitting for a few days, I'm guessing this is part of the problem. This car used to have an extensive Alarm system in it, maybe this is part of the remains? Is all this stuff normal on a 87 3.2? By stuff, I mean the extra wires pigtailed on to the positive side of the batt.
1st porsche, trying to figure it all out- http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1153781202.jpg |
Have you found a wiring diagram, yet? I downloaded one from this website.
Some / all of those wires don't look factory, though, that doesn't mean they aren't needed. Doug |
Rather than wire a new accessory to the fuse panel, it appears they have just run the hot wire to the battery and then grounded the accessory on the other side which is an accident looking for a place to happen, serious fire hazard in my estimation. if something shorts out it will start a fire and you will be SOL. Find someone who can wire the accessories properly. It is an easy way to get power to something but will not offer any protection.

never stack more than 4 connectors imo.
ps: they're even stacked wrong imo. |
Thanks for the responses, I guess I'll just trace them out and see where they end up. I'll start with the Yellow one!

I found more stuff. What a nightmare, is it safe to assume that all this wiring is associated with the aftermarket alarm? Ok to just yank it all out you think?

aha- you found a noisemaker, aka alarm system. Something that is never paid attention to , other than complaints on how another alarm has gone off and how annoying...
keep tracing. you will find a oe wire , usually the yellow one to the starter- that is cut and butt connected to this alarm. So what stops a thief from jump starting the car? nothing in that case. If the fuel pump wire is interupted < better installs are this way, then hide your own switch somewhere under the dash- but do it with a stand alone relay / complete the ground , rather than running a hot wire back and forth |
