porsche parade
I'm sorry if this is a little off topic, but my thread in porsche talk has received 0 replies and less than 10 views. I think folks don't look.
I want to go look at the cars assembled for the Porsche Parade in Portland. I don't want to compete in anything. I just want to gawk at the concours and watch some autocross. I got my porsche well after registration had started, and I was never clear on what it meant to register. I assumed, like with autocross, that registration was just for the competitors, and that people could still be spectators, so I didn't put myself on any wait list. The website does say that the concours is geared to spectators, which gives me hope that the public can come look. But there is nothing there about how to go be a spectator. With all the expertise on this site, I imagine that some of the folks here have been to a Parade. Would someone please let me in on how it works? If I drive down there, and stay with a friend for a few days, will there be anything that I can go see, or is everything closed? It seems like it wouldn't be much of a concours if it was only open to the participants. But given the dearth of information I'm finding, I'm starting to wonder. If anyone can give advice, or point me to a site that's more informative than the official site, I'd be much obliged. Shamus |

And by the way, what you CAN do, without doubt, is go to Emory's event in McMinnville. This is just a bit southwest of Portland, and is a great event in non-parade years. This year it has been scheduled to fall the weekend of the start of the Parade (August 6-7), so it should be great, as many are intending to stop by on the way to the Parade. This is a casual affair where many, many great cars are always present. Check their website, and do a search for "Emory's Camp-out."

Shamus,..Scott:
You fellows do not have register for anything to attend Parade as a spectator and see a lot of neat cars,... ![]() Only the people who wanted to compete in different events and attend the evening banquets needed to do that. The parking lots will be full of Porsche's of all kinds every day and I'd recommend attending the Concours on Monday and the Driving Events on Wednesday & Thursday at PIR.

hey
i was (and am) all set to go to parade, however i'm 99% sure that i have to cancel. 1) car still doesn't have the enw engine in it and 2) when the bill comes...i ahev the feeling i'll be back to the starving student....seriously. ( i know it sounds outrageous, a university student with a heavily modded 911, but i rebuild it before i was 17, (1800 purchase) and every dime not needed for school has gone into it) so even though i've paid for the event and stuff...i can;t afford a hotel....which is brutal.... and i was sure my car would win something.....lol..... i expect you guys to take lots of pictures

One thing that is also fun to do is visit the parade hotel and see the goody store. They should have a garage nearby for the guys (and gals) to do concours prep a great time to get to talk to the owners, you know how Porsche people hat to talk about their cars. Jim

Thanks!
I don't think I can get down there for the camp-out. But it's good to know I can go down if I can get off work. It's likely I can. If I can make it, I'll talk to the guy about volunteering for some events, as well. There's a link on the parade website to volunteer. I don't mind helping out here and there. |

Half of me wants to see what the fuss is all about and half of me dreads all the BS involved in parking, etc. etc. I have the 7th off from work so I guess we will see how the weather pans out. It would be kinda cool if several of us headed down there using some side roads rather than I-5 (ie through Vader, Longview, Scapoose, etc.)

Right - it's open to the public, and Pelican this year is a sponsor (name badges).
