Shock changes for 89 Carrera

It is winter time and I have nothing to do but think of ways to spend money on my 911 that is sitting in my brothers garage, covered and on jacks. Is there a cure for this syndrome? Joking aside, My car came factory equiped with the sport suspension option M474. On inspection these are Boge shocks, generally the oem shock and not really a performance oriented one such as a Koni or Bilstein. Or though I thought. In Anderson's bible he say's "Porsche started to offer the Boge double-tube gas pressure shock absorbers as a sport option in 1985. They worked so well that for 1986 and 1987 they made them standard equipment for the 911 Carrera and Turbo. He goes on to state the the best choice would be the adjustable Koni's. My questions are many o I need to replace these? In my neophyte opinion the car corners great. My car is 11 years old and has 55K miles. It has been used and will be used for minor track events. What type of Boge do I have on now? I assume it is the double tube upgrade. If I'm going to change, I'm thinking of adjustable Koni's. As far as the ride harshness, My car is already harsh and I kind of like the extra handling. One last question , g-force tires, are they worth the money? Opinion and replys welcome. Damn these Porsches. They make it so interesting to modify and tinker with them. Why could'nt I be interested in a 300zx?

Not answering your question exactly because I haven't dealt with the adjustable Koni's...but, from what I have heard, they are quite good because you can change the harshness...I think there are three settings. Not exactly easy to change, but not a royal task either.
As far as having to replace your shocks, as long as they are fine right now...no harmonic motion when going over a bump...they still have their pressure, and you are pleased with the way they perform, then No, do not change them. I don't think you will see that much of a difference between the shocks. Unless you are really driving your car hard when you race and race often, it isn't worth it.

Others may disagree, though.

You saying something about a 300ZX reminds me of a commercial that Nissan had about 6 years ago...i think.

Does anyone remember the commercial where the 300ZX is on the Autobahn and it comes up behind a 911, flashes its lights to tell it to get out of the way, and then flies right by it?

Kind of funny, I would love to see a 911 turbo against a 300ZX turbo...that would be no contest in my opinion.

Anyways, I digress,

Paul
