i need help trouble shooting a non firing
plug the plug wire and plug are ok

Have you checked the distributor cap? The points? Have you done a continuity test to make sure that power can actually going through the wire? I know you said that the wire and plug are fine, but are you basing this on looks alone?

Jesse, You haven't given us enough info to go on! You haven't told us the year of the car, or model, or type of engine, type of spark plug, type of ignition and distributor! If you haven't taken the offending plug wire off the engine and tested the resistance from distributor connector to spark plug connector with an Ohmmeter, then you DON'T know it is good. The BERU spark plug connector used for many years, has a built-in resistor, which can go BAD (open), and which the BOSCH CDI unit can jump across at low to moderate temperatures! At summer temps. the engine will develop a 'miss' and foul the plug! So, if all you did was take the spark plug connector loose, and take a 'test' spark plug, put the connector on the sparkplug, hold the body of the plug against the engine block to test while the engine is running, you haven't REALLY tested the offending cylinder's wire! The spare BERU connector I have measures 3120 Ohms, so I suppose anything in that vicinity (within 20%) would be acceptable.
