battery problems
1992 carrera 968. I left it in garage for 2 weeks while on vacation with basically a new battery and came back and it would not start. Took it to a shop (not Porsche) and they said battery was definitely low. Charged it up and tested it and found a 0.3 Volt draw, which they said was not out of bounds. They say anything under 0.5 Volts is ok. Replaced the battery. They said the early Porche's had this problem becuase it was when they started putting computers in and suggested buying a trickle charger and hooking it up if I'm not going to drive it regularly.
Any opinions? |

albosma,
The shop probably meant a .3 AMP draw. Likely an after market alarm. Either get a little trickle charger for long periods of non-use, or have an Auto electric shop figure out where the current is going when it's off.

racer- you know asked them if it was amps or volts and they said it was volts. 0.3 volts. I did call a Porcshe mechanic who said the draw should be no more than maybe I think 20 milliamps, so if its 0.3 amps, that's way too much. There is no alarm on the car. thanks!

if you don't drive it often, a trickler can be a good investment.
