working around body tags? Is removal Ok---- Where to buy A+B post vinyl?
Just wondering I have to replace the vinyl on the A-post (drivers side windshield post) is it possible to remove the VIN# tag with no damage? Its the only way I can see to replace the vinyl.
Also the PAINT CODE tag on the drivers hinge post and the VIN# tag on the front latch panel of my 73 I wanna remove them to paint the car properly.....Is this standard process? TIA |

I drilled out the A-pillar rivets (they are aluminum) and bought new matching rivets from mcmaster. Pelican sells replacement vinyl.
I dont know what to do about the paint code tags. My car had a prior respray and they were either sprayed over, poorly masked, or already removed. I went ahead and took them all off since they looked like crap.

Another question, does the dash have to be removed to replace the vinyl?

Tags - I know a guy that used to carefully put heavy grease on a tag and carefully wipe off the surrounding area with degreaser. After painting over the grease, it would wipe off and it looked like a perfect masking job.....

Herman, replacement door jam tags are available from a dealership with proof of ownership. Alas, it will be black in color, like in the new cars. Not the original silver. I would STRONGLY suggest masking the metal tags. Better to have masking lines than to tamper with VIN's...Heck, I'd probably mask the original door jam sticker as well. It's pretty tough to hide a repaint from a trained eye anyway. It is very illegal to remove or tamper with VIN tags. Read here:

To do the front post recover properly, you will have to remove the dashpad
