77911s, last year i purchased a 1974 911 carrera targa for $13,900. its not a perfect car. it's got 237k miles on it but has been well maitained with only two owners. mostly cosmetic and normal mechanical items need to be addressed. my hope is to restore it completely over time.
Check out "Cars of Particular Interests" Tel # 1-800 972 5312. they do not have a web site. They issue quarterly value guides to collectible and exotic cars. a 1974 911 carrera in JFM year 2000 quarterly issue is valued at $14,300 - fair, 18,800 - good, and $26,325 in excellent condition respectively. But as i have read on this site many times these and other sources are only guides. Each car stands on its own merits. Also, Aug 1999 of "Excellence" magazine's market update shows a value of $14,273 - low, $16,229 - good, and $21,725 - excellent respectively. I feel if I were to spend the required money to get my car into excellent shape, I would approach the appropriate value of my car so I figure I got my car for the right price. I hope this helps you make your decision. ------------------ |
