I rebuilt last year. Installed 964 cams, 9.5:1 J&Es, and SSIs with dual out Monty. I don't have dyno numbers but you will be very pleased. Engine now has 8000+ miles. Pulls strong in traffic or WOT...

wilke3169 ... if you don't mind me asking, what was the total cost for the rebuild including the upgrades you mentioned? also, how long did it take to get back on the road?

thanks!

mca- I have never added up the cost. Also I did tons of while you are in there items. Would be happy to give advice or info concerning the machine shop I used and such.
To avoid stealing the thread if you want to email me.
I just noticed that you are local.

I reground cams to 964, installed 9.8:1 JE pistons with headers and bursch pipes on my '78 Euro. Running 100 octane, CIS fuel mixture richened a bit, distributer at near full mechanical advance with vacuum advance unhooked it pulled 209 HP at the wheels. Cost? the engine was out for rebuild so I think these upgrades added about $1,200 to the cost of the build.

I have about 3,000 miles on the engine. Most are track miles. The engine pulls hard and performs well all the way to red line. Because it was a euro, my gain in HP was about 20HP. What I noticed mostly was that the power curve improved along with throttle response.

The PO (Charlie Stylianos) installed 9.8 JE's, SSI's, Elgin SC330 Cams and a bunch of other stuff

Competition Engineering did some trick work to the heads, etc.

It dynod 184HP, 188 Torque at 5000 RPM at the wheels so there was some powertrain loss. He was expecting more HP but believed that the Dyno operator made a few errors.

The car is a blast once she is unleashed.

I think it puts out more then enough HP when I see my passenger holding onto a piece of the car for dear life
