Hi everyone...and thank you!!!

...for providing such a lively discussion group...i came across this board after i purchased my first 911 just a couple of weeks ago...my father was driving 911's in my childhood years in germany (some 20 years ago), and the sound of him coming home from work at night and taking off in the mornings will forever stay with me...

we are four kids, and yet were able -more than once- to squeeze ourselves into the 911's tight cabin to go skiing together...when we emerged from his car, ski-boots and all, people were gawking at the strange sight of this scruffy faced father with his four laughing kids emerging...he always looked at them straight-faced and said: "one of the best family cars you can buy."

when i crank up the engine today, when cruising down the freeway in third gear at 4000RPM playing with the raw purr of this beautiful driving tool, it still brings a smile to my face...you don't just drive around in this car, you feel like a driver inside of a precision machine, that listens to you as much as you listen to it...a car with a lot of soul (if you let it).

anyway, i want to thank you all for spending your valuable time helping eachother...for providing a sense of community and belonging to other porsche-lovers like me, and for the patience that so many of you exhibit with the "juniors" and "novices"...bless your loving hearts, and bless the machine that transports those hearts from one place to another ;-)

peace and safe travels,
till

I echo the sentiments exactly. Nostalgia keeps us all healthy.

Being a relatively young man(29), I have owned two Porsche 911's. The first was an 88 Black Cab. w/saddle leather and the current is a 70 911 E which has been a project for the last year, but is near completion. Sorry to the "only original" 911 guys but this car is the one I've been dreaming of building for 25 of my 30 years(930 flares, RUF Speedlines, Webers, etc). Pelican Parts has been a major help in procuring almost everything I've needed for my projects. Kudos to Wayne, Tom, and all the technical contributors.

My father too, was and still is a Porsche Guy. His first was a '65(?). He was building 911's way before it was the cool thing to do. At age 61 he loves the Pelican Parts site and gets a kick out of the discussions. He also can't believe the impact(positive) this site and others like it have had on the pricing and availability of quality new and used Porsche Parts.

I can remember some 40 or so separate 911's that came and went from his shop. He's the ultimate Porsche body and frame man and he infected all four kids with the bug as well. The smell of a 911 leather cabin is as close to heaven as you'll come(for now atleast). As kids we would all pile in and have the time of our lives. Whether it was getting dropped off at school or driving 150 mph down the NYS Thruway. Thats why we own the cars. Speed and nostalgia.

Wow, that was better than laying on the couch and paying $ 200/hr. Porsche therapy. Good stuff. Regards to all.

Till, Rich,
I couldn't have said it better. Sorry Rich, but being a relative young man(19), I have been in love with Porsches since I was 16. I finally got my first one, a '76 911S last October 18th(how could I forget that moment?). Although I've had some problems with it, including rough idle and a almost impossible to start engine(it does start...after a good 30 seconds of cranking, or 5 seconds after I bleed the fuel system), plus unbelievable amounts of real bad bodywork done by previous owners, I still love it. Even though my head hurts after a long drive due to the aftermarket exhaust, I still long for more.

My future plans include modifying it to resemble a Ruf Yellowbird, although I'm thinking of painting it black. It's gonna take a while, but I know it will be done. I've never had the luxury of experiencing anything above 90mph...Hawaii isn't the best place to own a Porsche, but nonetheless, I enjoy driving it at any speed, besides during traffic jams.

People have asked me what I like to do. I tell them I just love to drive my car...and they give me a weird look on their faces, although there was a sergeant in Maryland when I was there for schooling, guessed that I wanted a Porsche when I told him I just loved to drive. Thank you, Sergeant Mason. Thank you, Professor Porsche for making the ultimate automobile, thanks to the people who are on this BBS helping others out, and thanks to each and every single Porsche fanatic that makes this all possible. My lifelong dream has almost come true. If only Porsche would hire me to race for them...(hint hint!!)

Of all the people that I thanked, I missed two people that allowed my dream to come true. Thank you, mom and dad.

Hi all, just wanted to say 'Hear Hear' for everything that's been said so far. Just thought I would give a little of my history with Porsches. It started with my Dad, back in the early '60's. He loved Porsches, and at one time he owned 3, and half interest in another! I remember vividly going up skiing in the mountains of Colorado, my brother and I strapped in the passenger seat next to my father. This was in a blue speedster. His 2 other cars were a white Super 90 coupe, and a red speedster, that he raced in the sports car races being run back then. The red speedster ran like a bat out of hell, unil I watched it flip end-over-end 2 1/2 times, coming to rest upside down. Dad - broken ribs, car - totaled! The car that he had half interest in was the best of all: a bona-fide Porsche spyder! They used it strictly for racing, and I never got a ride in it, but I still remember the bright silver color, and the blunt nose of it and the big cooling vents behind the doors. I myself finally got enough money put away last year to finally get one of these fine machines, and I love every minute behind the wheel!
Cheers folks, and thanks for making the board what it is!
Craig
