Dashboard Question
How different are the various dashes throughout the Porsche years? I would like to get one of those carbon fiber kits for mine (74) but, I only see them dating back as far as 76. I f I were to purchase one of these, is there a possibility it would work? Would I just have a few leftover pieces (like the AC vent in the dash)?
Thanks, Mark '74 911S Coupe |

Mark:
The dashboard was one of the elements which Porsche AG changed as often as women change their hair color (I apologize to all the women out where; perhaps I should have said "as often as my wife changes her hair color"). This keeps it from being insulting? Anyway, they are different, almost from one year to the next. The best thing you can do to become informed is to look for Don Johnson's books, as well as the Illustrated Porsche Buyers' Guide, etc. for pictures of "original" 911 of various years. You will have to do some research to get your right answer, but getting there is half the fun. One other possiblity is to look for a friend who has a 1976 911, and compare the two cars. But if I remember correctly there were only small changes between those years (I used to have a 74 and my best friend had a 76). A bigger problem may be some optional equipment, such as intermittent wipers, etc. which have additional holes in the dash, etc. Be patient, investigate, and I'm sure you'll find the answer in one of those "history" books......Andras |

The dash in a 1976 911 did not have the speaker grill that your 74 does. It will fit!
