Getting A Spare Key Cut...Recommendations?

Gang - Can I go to any regular key cutting place to get a spare cut...like Home Depot? I was not sure if there was something specific about the key design that a regular key cutting place is not able to duplicate it.

This is for my '89 930

Thanks!

Yasin

I just got 2 made at home depot. Works fine and the're cheap, although the blank they used was really long and had a really fat section near the top, I did a "lightweight key mod" and sliced it down some.

I visited my local dealer and they cut two (Pelican bought) factory blanks for free!

Keep in mind the factory keys are made of steel and most key places only have brass replacements. Not sure if it makes a difference.

I bought blanks from Pelican and had a locksmith cut them. Some won't since they're steel instead of brass, they're worried about damaging their cutting machine.

The brass is flimsy but easy to cut. I took a steel replacement to one locksmith once and he griped about how it would wear out his cutter. I took it to a department store and the clerk cut it for me.

In this 1980 C&D 911SC article (page 89) they say the keys are made out of Aluminum.

You'd think aluminum would snap after a short period of usage. A magnet should prove one way or the other.

The key for my '65 is steel but my SC key is not magnetic.

My original 1987 Carrera key must be aluminum also since it is not sticking to the magnet.

Yasin ,
this is where you want to buy .
Just email him for the key also . He will charge you an extra 12 or 13 $$$ for the blank but it looks much better than the cheap stuff at Home Depot and Wal Mart !! Have some pride in your Ride !

Go to ebay item # 7989427851

I purchased a blank here at P.P. and had it
cut at my local Ace Hardware. Works fine.

Also, I have several spare batteries
for the flashlight key heads. If someone
would like one send me an E-mail.

I went to many places and they don't have car's key for our car (blank). I bought a blank from a Pelican member, waiting for it.
