Question on tub VIN

Concerning a 1971 911 tub, I understand there is a number on the dash under the radio, will this number match the VIN inside the trunk?

I did a few searches on the forum but couldn't come up with anything.

Thanks in advance!

I referenced the Bruce Anderson Performance Handbook and it says from 1970 on there are three places the VIN was stamped, the drivers side windshield post, the drivers side door jamb and under the hood, usually by the smugglers box. These places are for US destination cars. All these three numbers stamps should match. If your's has a forth and it matches, then thats a bonus for you. If it does not, it appears there were only three sets of matching numbers on the tub.

No. For 70 it is the production number and is not the same number as the VIN. They are linked though. The factory has records of the VIN for a particular prod. #. I've heard it said that the factory will only tell you if your prod numer and VIN match. They will not tell you what the VIN is for a particular prod. #.

The VIN will also be marked in crayon under the dash. This is how the car was identified after the VIN was assigned but before the final plates were installed.

SWB cars have prod. #s that match the VINs. So the number stamped on the dash is the same as the VIN.
