a/c compressor options
 

Hi everyone,

I'm doing an air con install soon. I've been reading threads trying to find the best possible system, as i've experienced how useless the standard system is on a really hot day.

Firstly, what modern compressors can i use that will fit the original mounts? if any...

i'm probably going to add a front fender condenser similar to the 964 setup, in conjunction with the standard condensers.

Has anybody found any better condensers which will fit under the decklid, except for the OEM part? I'd also be looking for one to go behind the front valence in the original location.

I'm aware of a few websites from the US, by any chance... does anybody know places to source these parts in australia?

Only the Nippondenso will fit the Nippondenso mount. That having been said, you can buy adapter plates to mount a Sanden or Seiko-Seiki rotary.


There are aftermarket condensers that will fit there as well. Some people have reported that you have to do some sheet metal "surgery" to get the 964 condenser to fit. Here's what I installed:

I think www.mrjaguar.com sells an updated condenser for the rear deck, but it might only be available as part of a larger kit. www.griffiths.com might have one for the rear, too, and I think they have one for the front, as well.

The other thing is to make sure you get the appropriately adjusted expansion valve. Seems like there is a hex key on the inside that lets you set up the point of vaporization. Something about 8.5 turns vs the 11 in the common expansion valve.

On condensers, if you have any plans to do a turbo on your car, this would be a good time to do the underbelly condenser and add a subcooler like Jim Sims did (or a procooler if you are rich).

what condenser did you install in the fender? Is it a porsche part?

No. It's an aftermarket part from Ice Air Conditioning in San Diego, California. Not visible in the picture is a fan on the other side of the condenser.

If i was going to go with a sanden or seiko compressor, would any a/c specialist have the adapter bracket?

As far as I know, the only place to get the Seiko and an adapter is www.scottsind.com.

www.**********.com sells a Sanden compressor and adapter for $400 US

www.rennaire.com sells the Sanden and adapter separately for about $320 US

Renneaire also just came out with an oversized front condensor... Also, their evaporator appears to be much bigger and hopefully more efficient...
