Somebody jacked my stereo, need cab top repair
Yep, I got the official "welcome to the Bay area, now get the hell out".
Punk kid cut through my rear plastic window, used a prybar to remove my $170 stereo, and did about 2 grand in damage in the process. I don't have full coverage insurance either. My factory alarm woke up the neighborhod at 3:45 A.M., and the cops got there very quickly. They think they caught the guy too. I haven't heard yet if they did or not, but anyway, it was nice that they even showed up. My question is, does anyone know a place in the Bay area (San Mateo-ish) that can cut out and stitch in just the plastic portion of the cab top rear window?

Anyone?
There must be a talented auto upholsterer in the Bay area.

Ah - that's a bummer. Call European Imports (the RR dealer) in SF and ask who they have repair their convertible tops.

Sorry to hear about that Tyson. My experience with convertibles is to have a cheap/removable face stereo, don't keep anything of value in the car (hide your registration in the trunk or something and never lock it. If someone is going to try and enter, you might as well let them have the radio and save the window/top.

Tyson: Try getting ahold of Jason Cullen. He's in the Bay Area, and might be able to guide you.
Sorry to hear of your trouble... Scott

In hindsight, I always fantasize about walking up on the punk a$$ POS, as he's crawling into my car, and I just happen to be walking back from the batting cages, with helmet and bat in hand!
Sorry to hear of your plight Tyson...

I hope they did catch the punk.
About 2 years ago, someone broke into my wifes car and stole the POS stereo. Damaged the door and the dash big time. The POS stereo surely ended up in the trash. No punk would even want it. The only reason to take a POS stereo is for sport. Punks like that need a good beating.

I can recommend Hank's Trim Shop in Alameda, CA. He has done two jobs for me - replaced the headliner in my 89 Range Rover, and repaired a broken seatback release cable in my 91 BMW. Both jobs were excellent and very reasonably priced. There is also this online review:

That sucks. Some douche-bag broke out my nephew's Civic side window to steal his 'performance' type R shift knob ($5). $160 to replace the glass...

This is the reason that my vintage '96 sony radio is going to stay in my 911.
The best part about CA is that if you challenge a thief in your home or on your property you can not assault him or her unless they assault you first. So you guys "packing" better make sure the thief isn't breathing when the cops show up ![]() -Matt

I too keep a pos blapunkt in my cab - and leave the doors unlocked. Of course that didn't stop the last mental giant that stuck a knife in my top to open the door (it was unlocked) then used a prybar to open the glovebox (it was unlocked too).

You might give a call to a place that makes sail boat covers and dodgers. They deal with that type of stuff all the time for boats. Take a look in latitude38.com for vendors. Might be cheaper than an auto place. There is a ton of marine places in Marin area around Sausilito

My theory on convertibles...leave them unlocked! Anything inside the car is less valuable than the top and rear window. Have a good ignition antitheft device though.

That blows, Tyson.
![]() However, I disagree with leaving the Cab parked unlocked. You've got no idea what some of these crack-pipin' low-lifes are thinking half the time and I'd hate to hear of some asswipe releasing your parking brake (and flipping it out of gear) for laughs as your car goes careening down the street... ![]()
