Fan shroud/alternator swap ('74 to a '65)?

The alternator for my '65 is out getting repaired and I'd like to drive the car this weekend.

Is it possible to take the whole assembly from my '74 and install it in the '65? The '74 has the 55 amp alternator (I'm assuming it's self-regulated). What are the wiring hurdles I would need to overcome to get it connected correctly?

The '74 alternator isn't internally regulated! Regulator is on the electrical panel.

Issues of contention:

1. I assume your '65 has a Bosch alternator and regulator.

2. Brand of '74 alternator and regulator could be Bosch or Marchal.

3. Brand of installed alternator and regulator should be the same!

I can't find a regulator. Seriously. There's a silver box mounted perpendicular to the centerline of the car with "Hella" stamped on it, a few wires, three fuses, and a little black cylinder. I opened up Pet 6 last night to be sure I'm not looking in the wrong place, and sure 'nuf there's a Marchal regulator in the diagram but I can't find it on the car.

I'm going to take the fan off tonight and see what kind of alternator I have.

OK, here's the story:

The alternator is an essentially brand new Precision Parts 55 Amp self-regulating unit. Part number MOA031. It's designed to fit '71-'74 cars. Here's a copy of the installation instructions with a diagram of the back side.

Is this doable? The wiring harness on the '65 has the three-prong plastic piece made to fit into the Bosch VR. Would it be better to make my own harness than try and adapt the original?

If I can actually make this work, where exactly do I attach the wires coming from the 55 Amp alternator to the car?

P.S. I'm an electrical idiot
