Remove A/C condensor from rear lid = cooler running engine?
 

I am on the verge of removing the A/C and backdating the heater system on my '78 SC Targa.

First off, I know the trombone (soon to be 28-tube cooler) is where we wick off heat, but what about ambient air passing through the engine lid and "bathing" the engine? If I pull the condensor from under the engine lid can I expect *some* decrease in engine temp.?

Next, what do you think about removing the A/C - I never use it, but hesitate only because on selling I would not be able to say it had A/C. Sure, a knowledgable pcar person would understand, but what about the average joe? Drive the price down?

In previous discussions I think the general consensus was to keep the A/C if its still working and if you eventually are planning on selling.

I you plan to keep it 'for ever', obviously, it does not matter.

Whether it will have any significant impact on cooling, I have not the foggiest. Probably not.

I noticed a little dip in temp. But I would not remove the condensor just to try and cool the engine.

If the AC works, I'd leave it. If you want the cooling to be better, just don't turn on the AC. The amount of air restricted by the condensor is insignificant, IMHO.

A friend of mine had the same problem. When the AC was stripped off, he still ahd the same problem and lost pretty good money when he sold it.

If the a/c works it can be pulled out and can then be sold for more money, or let's say it can be sold and does not have to be given away.

Unless your SC is a collector's item low mileage gem, removing the a/c will not hurt it's value significantly. It is your car, don't worry about the next owner.

If the a/c is working, removing the condeser will allow the engine to run cooler since the hot air from the condenser will no longer be used to cool the engine, however, you can achieve the same result by just shutting off the a/c.
