hood shocks for '90 C4 cab

Can anyone tell a first time Porsche owner how I can compress the old hood shocks (which won't hold up the hood) and remove them, in order to replace them with new ones?

If the hood shocks are anything like the '89 and earlier cars (should be, I think), you don't need to compress them to remove them. Just gently push the hood up as far as it will go, and you will be able to get the old shocks out and the new shocks in. They are held in by little clips, which are readily apparent.

Otherwise, it would be very difficult indeed to replace the shocks, it takes A LOT of pressure to compress them!

Thanks Brian. It worked just like you said. I was just afraid to start pushing and pulling until I heard from someone with some experience.
