heat exchanges
I HAVE THE EXCHANGER FROM MY 72 T MOTOR THAT I INSTALL ON THE 77 S MOTOR I PUT IN THE CAR. THE PROBLEM IS THE FLANGE ON THE 72 IS NOT AS THICK AS THE 77. I HAVE SENCE REINSTALLED THE 77 EXCHANGER ON THE CAR . THE 77 DOES NOT HAVE THE REACTORS,IT HAS A TUBE THAT RUNS TO EACH PORT AND TO A COLLECTOR THAT CONNECT TO THE EXCHANGE. THE QUESTION IS SHOULD I REPLACED THE EXHAUST STUDS SO I CAN USE THE OLDER EXCHANGER OR IS THERE THAT MUSH DIFFERENCE IN POWER COMPARED TO THE 77 EXCHANGER. THANKS

I would think you could fit the '72 exchangers without having to replace the studs. The benefit would be probably 12-14 hp and an even higher torque percentage gain. The thickness difference is about 3/8," right? Datsun (Nissan) dealers have some special exhaust system 'washers' that are about 3/8" thick for use on 510/620 engines that should work fine with a bit of grinding for clearance under the six conventional hex nuts. For use under the six Allen nuts a piece of steel pipe could be cut for use as a spacer. I would think the improvement in sound and power would be worth a bit of experimentation and hand fitting of parts!
