Dumb PO Tricks
I just finished putting tensioner guards on my 70 T. Taking things apart, one tensioner "looked" funny. Turns out the PO did not bleed all the air out of the tensioner, and counteracted that by machining an extension that fit on the plunger.
Talk about playing with fire. Anybody beat that. |
No offence intended, but
it would seem to me that you have stepped into the boat with the PO. There is a better solution than tensioner guards, albeit, more costly. I have had 4 911 motors, all of which required up-dating in the tensioner department( including the one I'm doing now). Gaurds (Safety Locks?)...NIMC.(kinda like NIMBY).Maybe in a race car that gets torn down frequently they would suffice.In a street motor, I have other sounds to listen to/for. J P Stein |
I certainly can appreciate that some day I will also be refered to as a PO (probablty a dumb one too).
Your comments about the oil fed tensioners (I assume that is what you meant) raises an interesting point. I agree that they are a good upgrade, but one I will make when either of my existing ones fail (if they ever do). The guards are effective against damage caused by a failed tensioner. Upgrading later is quite easy and can be done with the engine in the car. Anyway, my $0.02 US ($0.028 Canadian). |
