14 pin connector conversion

Ready to install my 79 Euro engine in my 'new' 82 US tub tomorrow.

Are the 14 pin connectors wired the same? I can't really tell from any of the wiring diagrams in Bentley. I assume the connector is not really represented in the diagram.

I thought I'd ask advice before I start tearing it down and comparing the wires inside.

I did notice that there was no external voltage regulator on my engine, which the earlier years should have. Not sure that this matters.

If you look at the wires, the colors match across both sides of the connector (generally). Even my '95 3.6 to early tub most, if not all of the of the colors match. I whittled the connector down to 6 wires, since the alternator has its own voltage regulator, I have no AC, am not using the accessory power for defrost relay, etc.

I am just using the gauges, starter relay and another item or two. Hope that helps point you in the right direction. Be careful when you take apart the connectors. My old one was fragile and new ones aren't cheap.

Mark I noticed some differences between my non euro and euro 3.0s but that could have been when the PO installed the US motor in the 73 chassis. There is a couple of pics in threads of the diagram that allowed me to work through it.

Where do you get a new conector one of mine is falling apart. Does Pelican sell them?

Thnaks, I guess I'll have to pull them apart to veryify everything anyway.

Erik, pelican sells them. I did a search on 14 pin connectors before posting this and there was a thread with the part numbers. I gues using that search to find the part itself didn't work for someone else.

Stop before you pull it all apart if you have not already done it. I will PM you with my phone #, I think I can tell you what goes where I can't scan it and post because I have a new computer and do not have the software for the scanner yet.
I have just converted a 78 3.3 Euro in my 84 Carrera, I know what you are going thru.

Tripster,
Got your number, appreciate the offer to help! I'll try Sunday evening.

Was hoping to get to it today, but it is amazing the things you have to do first, that have nothing to do with it. I did get a lot done today:

Installed Smart Racing front sway bar. Why now? empty fuel tank of course! Since you have to remove the tank to install a through the body the first time, now was the time.

Installed Elephant triagulated strut brace. Same reason, needed to drill a hole blocked by the tank.

Unstuck ignition switch. This was a flood car, and I couldn't get the key to turn. Good news is the fuel pump buzzed when I finally got it to move.

Installed my Wevo shifter and linkage, just ready for my tranny now.

Tommorrow's schedule, F1 in the morning, lunch cookout with the family, and then back to the car.

So many beers I forgot the last two items. Epoxied in my Pop-off valve and replaced the air injection boot.

Thanks again!
