fender seals

hey all...the morons who painted the car last painted over the fender seals. (the seals between the fenders and the bumpers.) how hard are they to replace? Also, one of them is missing on the front passenger side...

you can see how they were repainted over in these pics...

Easy. Just nuts and bolts to remove. Seals cost a few bucks.

Will likely require the removal of the wheel as well. I think the hardest part may be separating the seal from the extension and panel without screwing the paint up. You may have to use a very sharp exacto type knife to separate.

I wonder if a dremel tool used to sort of rout out the top of the old seal might work without the possibility of cracking the paint. This could be followed by finishing the edges of the paint with a small, fine file after removing the rest of the seal with the fender loosened.

Use a brand new Xacto blade and a straight edge to guide your hand SLOWLY as you make the cut. I'd never go at this with a Dremel. Maybe my hands are just too unsteady.

If you are "blind," just call them up. The online catalogue isn't the end-all device, just a guide.

I'd also use a blade the separate the seals and favor the seal instead of the metal. You can always peel what's left in a direction that's away from the outside surface. A little fin of paint may lay over and be captured by the new seal.

HOPEFULLY, this paint job wasn't a color change. If so, I'd take the car to someone who knows what to do and that wouldn't be just any body shop either.
