Anyone running ccw 8's in front on an SC?
 

Do I need any cutting/rolling to get these to fit? What size tire can I run? I'm assuming 225's would be an easy fit (RA1's).

I have 7" wheels on the front of my car with 225's on the front. I had to roll the fenders because of rubbing issues,
especially after going to the track.

On the street I was pretty much okay unless I hit a hard bump at any kind of speed.

For me the wider track definitely made the car more stable.

Sean, do a search for Bill Verburg's wheels offset chart. 8's will fit in the front but will require the lip being rolled most likely. You can fit up to 9.5 inch wheels in the back with proper offsets.

Sorry...I should have been more clear, I'm aware of Bill's chart. I was looking for some real-world experience since CCW's can be built to spec (I think). I was hoping someone here had gone this route and built to spec + experimented with tire sizing. I'll be using these on the track exclusively.

I don't think you'll do much better than Bill's chart. I'm pretty sure his chart was constructed with data points he received from people using those setups on their cars.

I have run 225 RA1a with 8" 951s on my SC with rolled and flaired fenders and they still rub. Many other 225s do not.

I run 17x8 and 17x9 CCWs built to spec on my SC, 225 hoosiers in front, no rubbing, but fenders are rolled.
I don't think that they would work without rolling especially on a lowered car.

Depends on how wide your tyres are.

I have runs 8 & 9s f &R on a 74 911 without flares but i was running 245/45/17 tyres at both ends

Can you tell us the specs on your setup? A 74 would normally have the "7 inch" rear flares - which is considered no flare, or true narrow body. With that setup the 9" wheel would need to have just the right dimensions. I've got a 74 and would love to have a 9"!

I just recently got a new set of CCW 17s and have a 225 up front. I rolled the fenders years ago, though, so I can't say it would work without it. I would think they would still rub on a car lowered for track duty.

No matter what o/s you use the lips will need to be trimmed, not rolled, trimmed.

Depending on the tires and suspension the joint where the fender and bumper comes together may also need work as well as triminn of the shock covers.

ET 23.3 to 31 have been used

the lower ET is closer to the lip, the higher is closer to the inner panels and shock cover.

If you use the absolute max width tire(245mm) plan on doing both the lip and shock cover triming operations.

235 will need one or the other, 225 can be made to work w/o too much of an issue on either side.

Bill, the trimming of the lip is self explanatory, but how are people trimmng their shock covers to squeeze the 245s in? I'm sure this has been covered before, sorry...

You can just remove the dust cover off of the front strut....

The rims were compomotive however I then had ROH 3 piece rims I just used some 10mm spacers to get the spacing right.

The car was a true narrow body before I put the SC flares on it. My lips were never rolled or trimmed.

I think the type of tyre has a lot to do with it as the tyres I ran were 245 Pirelli on teh track and Dunlop D01J on the road.
Both tyres had very square shoulders.

Thanks, Jeff. That's what I was thinking of doing anyway. Bill said you could trim it somehow, and I wasn't sure what that meant. I think there was a thread sometime ago about replacing that piece with a "sock" to keep the dust out but still give the extra room.

If I only run 225's, I might as well just go with 7's. Based on Bill's previous posts, you're better offer going with the smaller width wheel and running the widest tire possible for that width (e.g. 225). Is that right? Is there a negative to running 7 x 9's? More understeer for example.

No, just the opposite.

A 225/45x17 on a +27mmET wheel should work pretty easily.

that' s a tire ~9x25" fairly well centered in the wheel well, i've got a 9.4x25.5" on mine.

Okay, I get it, go with the 8" and run a 225.
