Adhesive Removal off Paint?

I jsut can't seem to get some dried adhesive off my car! The adhesive is from contact paper used to tape my numbers on for track events. The last DE I was at was a particular hot day and I have black paint...so the adhesive didn't come off with the vinyl like it usually does. Well, it's been almost a year now, and the adhesive is still there!

I've tried that Orange Gooo. What a waste of money!

So what's next? What won't hurt the black paint?

Wurth Citrus Degreaser....... of course, a German product when all else fails.....

Maybe "Oil-flow" ... a commercial gum/tar remover that dosn't attack paint.....

Use WD-40. Works better than anything else.

I've used the aerosol decal/bumper sticker removal stuff from Autozone with good results. It even works so so on dried tree sap but requires multiple applications.

I'm tempted to just pour gasoline on the damn paint at this point. That Goo Gone type stuff just foams up and when I wash it off, the adhesive is still THERE! It's like laugh and pointing at me...

I've even tried some of the spray stuff sold at the FLAPS..

I'll look for some of that Wurth stuff. Have you used it Wil? On harden/dried sticker adhesive?

Cool! The warnings in the MSDS are good enough for me. It ought to eat through the stuff. Thanks Warren! I think I saw some of that stuff at the Farm and Fleet. (I don't know why the farmers would need it to remove adhesive from their tractors.... )

Souk, I have used a rubber type adhesive remover disk chucked up in a
variable speed drill to "rub" off adhesive from car paint. It slightly dulls the finish, but a quick pass with some swirl remover shines it right back up. They sell these disks at auto paint supply stores. It just rubs the stuff right off instead of spreading it around as solvents typically do.

I wish I had bought one before I removed my stone gaurds when repainting my 951. I must have gone thru a whole roll of paper towels, a bunch of mineral spirits and a few hours of cursing and rubbing.

Souk,

Farmers can get pretty picky about that new green and yellow paint on their restored John Deere tractors!

Goof Off or lighter fluid will usually do the trick.

Avon Skin-So-Soft works well, too.

I used to use it to clean the rubber off the rear quarters of my drag car.

I'd be careful with goof off. 3M adhesive remover got the nasty German carpet adhesive off the back of my tub.

Try varsol. Rub it on using your fingers so you won't scratch the paint.

The first or second post said to use WD40. I have used that product for years to remove stuff from glass jars or anything else that had some form of "sticky" stuck on stuff that I wanted to remove. Very simple, will not mess up the paint to where you have to "rub it out" will not blow up and burn your a55. 3-M remover is geat but it screws up the finish on two coat paint.

Try WD40, the if that does not work ! Sand paper

Many chemicals will dull the paint. What I use that works and seems to do the least damage is paint thinner. The generic stuff from Wal Mart. Laquer thinner is very bad on paint.

Laquer thinner is what most body shops will use to remove adhesive. Overspray is always removed with it. It will destroy the paint if you leave it on but a little on a rag and the adhesive will desolve with light rubbing. Wash immediately and re wax when dry.
