Clutch Cable question... where does it run?

I had to disconnect the clutch cable a while back from the arm that holds the helper spring... I did this to get it out of the way when replacing one of the fuel line.

Now trying to put it back together and I'm having a bit of problem. It doesn't seem to be long enough?? With the clutch pedal all the way up, I'm still short about 1/2 inch or more from the arm. Wondering if I ran it in the right location. Is it suppose to run over and above what looks like part of the throttle linkage or run bellow it? Over it seems to be to short (current location). Above it seems to be way to long. I can't remember how it was.

Anyways, any help would be great?

Thanks!
Shayne

yes, that looks right. Did you possibly thread the clutch cabel too much at the clevis just outside the pedal cluster? It only gets screwed in to about 10 threads.

It was fine before... I simply disconnected it at the arm to move it out of the way so that I could access one of the fuel lines. Didn't change anything inside the tunnel.

how easily should I be able to clip the end of the cable on the arm? Like I said, with the pedal up, I'm still more then 1/2 inch away. The only way to get in on, is to pry the arm and helper spring forward and clip the cable on... just doesn't seem right.

It sounds like the outside cable is not set against the firewall hole correctly - have a look and be sure the housing is set firmly into the hole.

That would be my guess too.

hmmm... just found this picture in the tech articles. Would suggest that I have mine installed wrong. Does it matter?

I'll check the firewall connection then move the cable under the linkage assembly there.

see how that goes.

Shayne,

I was just messing with my clutch cable last weekend. I had the same problem of the cable not fitting after I loosened the nuts and pulled it out of the mount. I crawled out from under the car, and the clutch pedal was all the way down to the floor board.

I fixed the problem by taking a bungee cord and attaching it to the clutch pedal to pull the pedal up off of the floor board. When I crawled back under the car, I had enough length to secure the clutch cable back into the mount.

Also, make sure the cable is into the firewall housing like others have mentioned.

Fixed! Thanks for the replies!

So the issue ended up being that the cable was not properly seated in the firewall housing as you all mentioned. Once in it's proper place, I had more then enough length.

Thanks to everyone!
Shayne
