Am I testing battery draw right?

I think I'm hooking up the test wrong. I disconnected the negative cable from the battery. Then I set the ampmeter on 200mA. I touched one of the ampmeter wires to the negative cable and the other to the negative terminal. I got zero amps. I then repeated it on a setting of 20mA and got zero. I then did it on 2mA and got zero.

It can't be zero. I have a clock, an alarm..there must be some draw? Thought I was doing it right but obviously not.

You need to put the ampmeter between the POSITIVE terminal and the POSITIVE cable to measure draw.
good luck,
Ben

You are correct in the set-up but you may have a blown fuse in your meter. There is at least 1 fuse to protect the internals against overloading. I'd check your meter by removing the rear cover and finding the fuse(s) that are in there.

In order to accurately test the fuse you must use a known good ohmeter to verify continuity.
