new 19mm master cylinder
I notice that Ate are shipping the OEM 19mm master cylinders with 3 pin brake light switches.
My old one has only 2. Is this because it is an '84 with no rear window brake light which presumably would be the third device being actuated by the newer 3 pin switch? Should I just salvage the switches out of the one being replaced and will they require new gasketts or anything? cheers.

Any Aussies chime in?
I think it may be a DOT rating thing or is it perhaps an earth. Anyone know why some switches have 3 pins and some jiust 2 like mine? Phil

Phil,
The 1984 - 89 master cylinders used switches with two contacts wired in parallel strictly to operate the brake lights. The 1977 - 83 master cylinders used switches with 3 contacts [diagram below] to trigger the brake system warning light logic relay if one of the two switches failed to operate ... in addition to operating the brake lights. ![]()
