Any need for Oxygen Sensor on catless SC?

Is there any reason to use an OS on a catless 81 SC with SSIs that doesn't have to test for emissions? I thought it helped to control mixture. Now I hear that ROW SCs didn't have them at all.

you need it for enrichment of your fuel dizzy from my understanding and as I said its been a while since I messed with mine until I dumped the setup last summer for the efi. I can remember running for a while not connected and it ran fine. I can look in my book to verify

You could get by without it, but the engine will run better with it.
Some people say that you will have more throttle response without the sensor but I disagree.
The O2 sensor/lambda brain is taken out of the loop as soon as you hit full throttle, where it goes to a defaul setting (which is rich).
The only time the O2 sensor works is below full throttle.
I have one on my engine and I prefer it.
