Clutch pedal arm stuck...
I'm rebuilding the pedal cluster on my '71 911T, and have run into a snag in removing the clutch pedal arm from it's shaft. I was able to press out the roll pin (came out clean), but the clutch arm seems to be frozen onto the shaft. I've pryed, banged, twisted and heated it, but no luck. I don't see any way to press it off...is there a trick to getting it off? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Brad |

I just rebuilt the pedal cluster on one of our 914s and had the same trouble. I heated the outer arm with a butane torch and then hit the shaft from the other end which broke the corrosive bond loose and then I clamped the arm in a vise and used a large drift and drove out the shaft. Getting it broken loose was the key I feel. Good luck.

John,
Thanks for the help. When you say that you hit it from the other end of the shaft, do you mean that you drove the arm further onto the shaft to get it loose? I considered doing that but I was afraid it would become even more stuck. Sounds like the key is to get it to move in either direction to break the bond? Thanks Brad |

That's the idea, just get it to move some. Once it moved I could get some penetrating oil inside and it came off a lot easier. Good luck.
